Make sure your players are as happy as possible when you are the coach. Pizza parties and other group activities that help the team bond will go a long way. Always keep in mind though that baseball is just a game, not a life and death situation.

Shift the weight of your body to your back foot to increase the power behind your batting stance. If you hit from the right side, the weight will be placed on the right foot with your thigh muscle tightening on that side. Doing this will add power to your swing.

To get into the right batting stance, send weight to the rear foot. Therefore, if you are left-handed, you should shift your weight to your left foot. The back foot will generate the most power for you.

When pitching, it’s a must to know how to best hold a ball and pitch the ball. First, put your middle finger where the seam is. Then, you position your thumb on top of the other seam. This ensures you get a good grip, increasing accuracy, distance and speed.

Always be kind and respectful during team tryouts. No matter what sort of teams are involved, polite treatment of teammates and coaches will be essential. You will make a good impression and demonstrate your maturity.

Pay attention to where all other players are. This will help you avoid collisions. Player collisions can result in head injuries. Therefore, be aware of your surroundings.

When you are pitching, it is important to know the proper mechanics for throwing. The middle finger must be placed on the seam of the ball. Then, put your thumb along the next seam. This improves the grip on the ball which gives you better control and improved speed.

Improve your form by perfecting your stride in baseball. If you pitch right handed, then pick up your left leg a bit as the pitch is being released. It works the other way if you are left-handed. Push your feet forward a foot or so to increase your momentum as the ball is coming toward you. Younger children should step a little less than one foot forward.

Be the biggest hustler on your team. To be a good teammate, a strong work ethic is required. This is a leadership quality and it helps the game to get taken seriously. Make a difference by being the player others look up to.

When running the bases, don’t ignore the signs that your base coaches are giving you. They can see everything which is going on. Make sure your focus is on running the bases rather than on the ball. Allow them to see for you. If they say stop, hold up at the nearest base. If you get the signal to go, run as fast as possible.

Learn what is the proper stride for playing baseball. If you’re a right hand batter, utilize the left leg and pick it up when a pitch is thrown. It’s the opposite for left-handers. As the pitch gets closer, stride about a foot closer to increase momentum towards the opposing pitcher. Younger children should step a little less than one foot forward.

Balls react differently depending on how the grass is cut. Lines on the outfield grass can greatly affect the direction the balls rolls. By watching and learning how a ball reacts when they do roll along these lines, you’ll be better able to judge where the ball is going to stop.

Base coaches can be very helpful as you round the bases. You should focus on the bases and the base coaches because they can see the entire field. Focus on the coaches and not only on the ball. Your coaches can help you see. If you see them put up the stop sign, then immediately run to the closest base. If they’re telling to continue on, be sure to run as fast as possible.

Stadium Lights

When you are playing outfield, keep your eye on the batter. Righties will tend to hit it to the left side of the field. A batter hitting with the left hand will hit toward the right field. This knowledge can better prepare you for what might occur in a game.

You could lose sight of the baseball in the bright sun or glare of the stadium lights. If you have a ball coming towards you and you can’t see because of the sun, your glove can shield you from the sun. Putting the mitt over your eyes blocks some of the brightness while allowing you to see the ball.

Sunlight can make it hard to keep track of the ball. You need to learn how to keep the sun and the stadium lights out of your eyes, but still keep your eyes on the ball. Try using peripheral vision for spotting the ball.

Make sure that your foot is under your throwing hand at first base. Of course, you must keep one foot (opposite your throwing hand) on the base. Stretch your other foot towards the incoming ball and put your glove into position to catch it.

If the sun blinds you as the ball comes strait toward you, shield your eyes with your glove. Keeping your glove above the level of your eyes will block the brightness, and still allows you to keep an eye on the ball.

Right-handers should angle the bat towards first base to make sure you don’t bunt it directly straight forward. If you primarily use your left hand, switch up those bases. When you angle your bat properly, you can bunt effectively while keeping the ball away from the pitching mound.

A good play for a batter is to sometimes give himself up. Baseball is a team sport, not an individual one. You may need to bunt a ball in order to get a runner to the next base. You may not get the individual pride that you would with a home run or a base hit, but remember it’s all about the team wins!

If you don’t swing fast enough, you should choke up on your bat some. Slide your hands forward along the barrel of the bat. This makes you swing quickly and compactly. You will be able to hit a pitch that is faster than you could otherwise.

As a pitcher, remember that releasing the ball puts it into play. It will often go into the catcher’s mitt and then back to your glove without a play being made. But if the batter gets a hit, stay alert to avoid injury.

Have you taken a good look at your bat? A great metal bat needs to be about 3 ounces or so lighter than how long the bat is. For instance, 34 in. bats needs to weigh around 31 oz. This formula helps you hold the baseball bat perpendicular during your swing.

To prevent bunting the ball straight back at the pitcher, aim your bat’s handle towards third or the head towards first base. Of course, if you’re left handed, it will be reversed. Angling the bat places the ball away from the pitcher’s mound.

To avoid being accused of catcher’s interference, stay put until the pitch reaches your mitt. If you notice that the runner is stealing, start to rise while the pitch is on the way. However, if you jump too soon and the batter’s bat hits you, he gets a free walk to first base.

When warming up to play baseball, do some sprinting. Sprinting is essentially what comprises baseball. When the ball is hit you have to run quickly to first base. You must be quick getting to each base, and having good sprinting abilities can go a long way towards being safe.

When pitching, pay attention to your body. Shoulder injuries often occur because a pitcher uses his arm too much. Don’t practice more than three times weekly. This gives your shoulder time to rest on those alternate days, helping you prevent injuries.

Try a little choke on the bat to improve your swing speed. This will give you more control of the bat. This makes your swing more compact and quick. You will give yourself an advantage over a pitcher who may be faster than you can handle.

Double Plays

Watch the pitcher’s left foot if they’re right handed. When he picks up his foot, he has to throw. If he does not, he balks and you go to second for free.

Practice double plays if you are an infielder. These are the best friends a pitcher could have. However, double plays are tricky to accomplish. Repeat the drills until they are second nature.

To avoid a catcher’s interference penalty, stay put until the ball hits your glove. This will allow you to throw the ball without interfering.

To communicate to the catcher that you’re unhappy with his calling of pitches, roll your fingers or shake your head; this signals him to repeat going through the signs. If he doesn’t listen, trouble will ensue.

Tag a player who is off base with the ball to get him out. You need to be very agile to tag a player. So, prior to playing in a game, you must practice fast takeoffs.
