It is a helpful to break tasks down into four quadrants. Two vertical columns are for important and non-important tasks. For the horizontal rows, use the labels “Urgent” and “Less Urgent.” Don’t put more than 5-10% of time in the quadrants labeled not urgent or important. Focus on those which have a deadline or are important. Just be sure that you do spend a little time on the least important tasks. If you don’t, they have the potential to turn into emergencies on the following days.
