Taylor Swift has shattered Spotify records with her latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” reaching an unprecedented milestone of over 200 million streams within a single day of its release, as reported exclusively by Variety.
This achievement marks the album as the most streamed in Spotify’s history on its first day, outperforming her previous albums, “Midnights” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version),” which held the top spots for the most streams in one day.
Swift has not only set a new record for album streams but has also reclaimed her title as the most streamed artist in a single day on Spotify, surpassing the record she previously set with the release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” in October of the previous year.
The anticipation for “Poets” was immense even before its release, setting a record as the most pre-saved album on Spotify’s Countdown Page. Swift opted for a unique release strategy for “Poets” by not dropping any singles beforehand and maintaining an air of mystery about the album’s content, except for a few teases.
Originally announced as a 16-track project featuring collaborations with notable artists like Post Malone and Florence + the Machine, Swift surprised her fans by adding an additional 15 tracks just two hours after the album’s initial release. This expansion brought the total to 31 songs, making “Poets” a massive double album. Swift shared her thoughts on Instagram, stating, “I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours,” encapsulating her personal journey and creative process in this groundbreaking release.
The record-breaking day underscores Swift’s dominant presence in the music industry and her continued influence on streaming culture.
